VisitNAJ.com (a partnership with MasterCard Travel)

Case study
North American Journeys, a site for travel and tourism professionals, wanted to tailor their content separately to public, professional, and administrative users, deliver customized advertising appropriate to individual users' profiles, and provide a place for their customers to plan customizable travel itineraries.

Solution
North American Journeys' requirements highlighted a clear need for both client and server-side programming, so our choice and integration of technologies was critical. With our partner Gargoyle Webdesigns, who created the design and front-end, the Madfish Group created the complex database-driven, highly dynamic functionality on this site. This included file uploading capabilities, keyword-based global site searching, content management, ad management, and database-driven dynamic HTML for the custom travel itineraries.

Technology
HTML::Mason (server-side Perl), PHP, the Apache web server, MySQL, and FreeBSD.

Result
The client liked our solution so much, they invited us all back to create the second version of their site, the one you can see now.

eMindHealth.com

Case study
This massive directory site wanted to “revolutionize the way in which consumers connect with mental health professionals,” in a safe and confidential environment for their providers and consumers, while harnessing the web's potential for interactivity, ecommerce, and community.

Solution
With their 250,000 providers, it was critical that we carefully optimized the database issues inherent in this site's design. We were responsible for massive data imports, optimized weighted-match site-wide searching, session management (for effective user personalization), and secure credit-card processing via Signio's payment engine, as well as a custom templating system to allow for easy co-branding, a critical business need in our client's strategy. This site was once again the fruit of a partnership with Gargoyle Webdesigns, who covered the site's design and front end.

Technology
Apache, SSL, PHP, HTML::Mason (server-side Perl), MySQL, and FreeBSD.

Result
To our client's great satisfaction, we created this site in under two months, on budget, and well in time for their deadline - an important industry conference.

bTask.com (now presenceworks.com and instantwork.com)

Case study A large and complex directory site seeking to match Independent Contractors with Businesses, bTask wanted to revolutionize the market place: whereas similar services took days to make a match, bTask wanted it to happen in real time.

Solution
Besides our usual optimization of large database issues for this kind of site, the Madfish group created an innovative multi-protocol Instant Messaging (IM) program for bTask, allowing employers and skilled workers to find one another in real time on the web.

Technology
HTML, JavaScript, Mason (server-side Perl), Apache, MySQL, FreeBSD, and the WebCrossing chat engine.

Result
A best of breed implementation, helping our client achieve clear product differentiation in a highly competitive field, on time and on budget. As a testament to our development methodologies, we're proud to have completed this extensive project via email, IM, and telephone for a client on the East Coast, with only one in-person meeting, at the website's launch.
